Description of the Townhouse

Architectural Overview
The building’s south facade overlooks the main square. It is positioned between Hauptplatz 16 and 18, forming part of the continuous row of terraced townhouses. The structure is topped by a saddle roof, typical of urban dwellings in this setting.

Key Features
The building comprises three storeys. The ground floor features shopfronts, while the upper floors contain living spaces. A cornice separates the ground floor from the first floor, and a prominent roof cornice defines the upper edge of the facade. Two flat pilasters frame the building and lend it vertical emphasis. The first-floor windows are arranged in five vertical bays, and the second-floor windows are set within rectangular mouldings. The architectural design reflects a 19th-century adaptation of older structural forms.

Olsator
The Olsator (as depicted in this oil painting) is a fortified gate tower of cuboidal form, characterised by its robust masonry. Its broad segmental arch once provided passage for pedestrians and 19th-century traffic alike, forming a vital link between the inner town and the outer districts. The gate tower has a pyramid roof topped by a weather vane.

Townhouses on Bahnhofstraße
The two-storey townhouse on the left has an arched doorway and a prominent cornice that separates the floors. Its hipped roof projects outwards, with a wide soffit and dormer windows enhancing the roofline.

The townhouse on the right has similar features, including an arched entrance and a cornice dividing the two floors.
